When a customer asks about the best Unistrut fitting for a particular application, sometimes there is an obvious choice, but more often than not, there are multiple options. Unistrut post bases are a good example.
For the sake of argument, let’s assume that you need a post base to accommodate 1-5/8” channel like P1000. If your concept requires placing the channel in the middle of a 4” x 6” post base, you might want to use the P2942 post base, which looks like this:
If your design requires the channel mounting flush to the edge of the post base, then P2941 is the play. The P2941 post base is commonly used when you need to mount channel close to a wall and looks like this:
Unistrut also makes square 6” x 6” post bases with four mounting holes. The P2072A SQ post base allows for a square mounting pattern:
The sister product to the P2072A SQ is the P2072A, which has the same four hole mounting pattern, but the channel receiver is positioned on the diagonal:
At the end of the day, Unistrut post base selection comes down to a combination of personal preference and the specifics of your application. In some instances one style might be the clear choice based on your design parameters, but in other cases, more than one post base might perform the same function. That’s the strength of the Unistrut system--a range of available choices can achieve similar results.
