This post is designed to offer tips to help you select the best connection method based on your application. Learn basic connection strategies and discover the various threaded rod sizes, lengths, and finishes available from Unistrut Service Company.
There are a few simple ways you can connect threaded rod to Unistrut channel:
- Basic fixed connection
- Through connection
- Connecting from beneath
- Connecting on an angle
No matter which connection style you use, the procedure is relatively straightforward and demonstrates the versatility of our metal framing system.
View a video demonstration below for how to connect threaded rod to Unistrut channel, and read on for more details on the different ways you can join these components.
The first strategy is a basic fixed connection. This connection has the threaded rod entering the bottom of the channel, but it doesn’t exit the top side of the strut. The fixed connection works with single and double channel as well as solid and pierced sections of strut.
For applications requiring more adjustability, a through connection is a common strategy. Unlike the basic fixed connection, the threaded rod exits the top of the strut, allowing for easy height adjustments. The through connection works with single or back-to-back channel with holes or slots.
Use a U-shaped fitting (e.g., P1047, P1737, or P5547), to hang the threaded rod beneath the channel as shown in the drawing below. This option also allows for more length adjustment than a basic fixed connection.
When connecting threaded rod to Unistrut running at an angle, the most common method is to use two P1068 fittings with a nut and bolt. The end result—a vertical threaded rod connection to sloped or angled Unistrut channel—is a secure and highly adjustable connection.
The next time you need to connect threaded rod to Unistrut channel, give one of these techniques a try—and as always, if you have questions or need to order fittings, give us a call or drop us a line via email.
Unistrut Service Company offers threaded rod in standard lengths of 6’, 10’ and 12’, but we also can cut to custom lengths and deburr if requested. Galvanized finish is standard on most sizes, but we also offer our new, corrosion-resistant Defender Finish for ½” and 3/8” rod.
